Vietnamese Pho
Pho is a traditional Vietnamese noodle soup, often considered the national dish of Vietnam. It is a flavorful broth-based soup filled with rice noodles, herbs, and meat, typically beef or chicken. Ingredients:
- 1 pound beef bones
- 1 onion, halved
- 3 slices ginger
- 5 star anise
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 3 cloves
- 1 tablespoon coriander seeds
- 6 cups water
- 1 tablespoon fish sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 8 ounces rice noodles
- 1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced
- Fresh herbs (cilantro, Thai basil, mint)
- Bean sprouts
- Lime wedges
- Sliced chili peppers
Instructions:
- In a large pot, roast the beef bones, onion, and ginger until browned.
- Add star anise, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and coriander seeds. Pour in water, fish sauce, and salt. Simmer for at least 2 hours.
- Strain the broth and discard the solids.
- Cook the rice noodles according to package instructions and divide them among bowls.
- Top with thin slices of beef sirloin.
- Pour the hot broth over the noodles and beef.
- Garnish with fresh herbs, bean sprouts, lime wedges, and chili peppers.
